In a recent post by Penelope Trunk, she writes about emails she hates to receive. One of them is about women who write to whine about gender gaps in salary. This resonates with me, because as a whole, I just HATE it when women whine about the inequities they face in life because they are women. Really? Maybe the whiners face them because they are whiners! You reap what you sow in this life — and life is not fair. But if you ever encounter someone that treats you worse because you are a woman (and you will — those people are still out there) don’t get mad, get even. If it is a boss – quit. If it is a service person — don’t ever buy their services again. And yes, I know some women may feel trapped in their jobs — but I still don’t think that is any excuse. Don’t be trapped. Get out. If you need education – get educated. There are a plethora of online classes that even the hardest working single mom can find the time to take — and yes she will be exhausted — but little by little she will be less trapped and will not have to take any crap for anyone.
Ever heard this saying?
The funny thing about luck — the harder I work the luckier I get.
I totally believe that and just can’t deal with whiners. Do something about your situation. Don’t sit around and complain. Complaining and doing nothing just makes these gender inequities true — rather than debunking them by not accepting them and doing whatever it takes to get into a different situation with different people that don’t treat you, as a woman, differently. Life is too short. Be happy and make your situation what you want it to be.
